Our Sector, Our Community, Our Time; 2 Day Summit on Colorado Non Profits and the Econony
Location: DenverNumber of Visioners: 60
Description:
Our Sector, Our Communities, Our Time: A 2-Day Summit on the Economy and New Opportunities for the Non-Profit Sector in Colorado
In response to the current economic downtown and its impending effect on the nonprofit sector, several service providers and foundation leaders, most of whom first met as part of a Regis University Master of Nonprofit Management Advisory Board, identified the need to convene nonprofit professionals to discuss business survival strategies, and to create a forum for these same professionals to engage in broad and strategic dialogue regarding the challenges and opportunities these historic times present to the nonprofit sector in Colorado. They decided that a two-day Summit, where peer-to-peer learning could be fostered, might be a good place to start sharing ideas and building relationships. More info: http://our3.org
Let Us Rise facilitated a special Visioning Circle for the summit. We framed it this way: when an individual has a near-death experience, she has a choice: she can either go back to her life as usual, or she can ask, "Am I living as I really want to live? Am I living the life that I want to, or that I think I should be living, the life that is safe and comfortable? Am I bringing my unique gifts to the world in service of humanity?"
The non-profit sector has this same opportunity. Are we going to hunker down and try to save our non-profits as they are and go back to business as usual, or we going to take this opportunity to look at whether we have been effective in bringing our gifts to the service of humanity? Do we need to make some changes, and could this be the opportunity to do that?
There were a lot of people; we split up into 9 small groups of 6-8 people each.
