Let Us Rise Jams with PeaceJam
Over 250 youth from Colorado convened in Denver for PeaceJam's annual conference on February 28-29, 2009.
Let Us Rise Vision Organizer volunteers Donna Whittington, Cynthia Negron, Brenda Laczano, Dargan Brasington and Tesa Johnson Ferrell Jones facilitated fifty young people through a Visioning Circle. See their vision by clicking here. This led to the creation of a Visioning Circle guide to meet the specific needs and energy of youth -- including the human chair exercise shown at right, where participants experience supporting and being supported by others, and breaking out of old paradigms! In addition, PeaceJam volunteers led over 75 more young people on a Vision canvassing mission through the Highlands neighborhood. They collected 80 visions from people in the community, and left reply cards for residents to mail in their visions on approximately 300 doors. Dozens of residents indicated an interest in volunteering with Let Us Rise or hosting a visioning circle. Visions to be posted soon.
PeaceJam is currently following up with the community members contacted in the canvassing campaign and the youth vision circle participants to encourage continued involvement in the Let Us Rise campaign.
PeaceJam's Rocky Mountain Regional Director Jes Ward was so impressed with the process that she herself has become a Let Us Rise Vision Organizer, and we are exploring how to collaborate further moving forward.
The PeaceJam Foundation is an organization that seeks to empower youth to become leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world through the inspiration of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates.
